T-cell activation triggered by antigen
Click inside the square to “trigger” the T-cell (purple; it is actually responding to antigen attached to glass). The colour change is due to an increase in calcium inside the cell. Calcium is a “second messenger” telling the cell that the T-cell receptor has “seen” antigen. The cell responds by altering its gene expression.
