Specific protein recognition at the surface of T-cells
The inhibitory protein, CTLA-4 (blue), binds to a pocket in the B7-1 protein (pink). CTLA-4 and B7-1 are expressed on T-cells and antigen-present cells, respectively. The very good “fit” of the two proteins is quite unusual for cell surface proteins.
