Welcome to the website of the Oxford Paediatric Gastroenterology department. Paediatric gastroenterology is a clinical speciality comprising the investigation and management of disorders of the gastrointestinal tract (the oesophagus, stomach, pancreas, small intestine and colon) in infants and children. The demand for a tertiary paediatric gastroenterology service in Oxford is reflected in the year on year increase in referrals since its inception. The caseload is cumulative so that by the end of 2002 the paediatric gastroenterology team will have seen on the wards and in the out- patients department an estimated 8000 children. The Unit was established at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, in 1994 and is the Regional Referral Centre for children with complex nutritional and intestinal problems. The service is run by Dr Peter Sullivan who is an Honorary Consultant Paediatrician.
